Uganda is the second-largest coffee producer in Africa, after Ethiopia, and the birthplace of the Robusta species. But it is its high-altitude Arabicas that now put it on the specialty coffee map.

This coffee comes from Kasese, on the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, the “Mountains of the Moon,” on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its farms, located between 1,750 and 1,800 meters, offer the ideal environment for growing high-quality Arabicas.

KWENZI COFFEE, A WOMEN-LED PROJECT

Kwenzi Coffee was founded in 2021 by two sisters, Barbara Mugeni and Pamella Kampire, the third generation of a coffee-growing family. It is a women-owned and women-run company.

In Uganda, many young women work in the coffee chain, but they remain underrepresented. Kwenzi supports them so they can meet quality standards and sell their coffee under better conditions, building a stronger future for their families.

SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT IN EVERY CUP

Its processing station provides jobs and training for the local community, and it is committed to practices that reduce deforestation and water consumption. Its full traceability guarantees fair compensation for producers.

This microlot brings together the SL14, SL28 and SL34 varieties and is naturally processed, with whole cherries dried in the sun. The result is a cup scoring 82.5 SCA points, with fruity fragrance, a chocolate base and notes of red berries, strawberry and nuts. It is a sweet coffee with low acidity and medium body.
