Coffee production in Papua New Guinea dates back to 1926, when the first Blue Mountain coffee seeds from Jamaica were planted. Since that time, the crop has grown to become the country's second largest agricultural export and employs 2.5 million people.

Since the industry does not derive from a colonial system based on large plantations, most of the current production continues to come from family crops of small farmers known as "coffee gardens". It is based on coffees mostly grown in isolated areas and which usually have organic cultivation certifications.

 THE COFFEE GARDENS OF PAPUA

HIGH-ALTITUDE COFFEES IN A LIMITED EDITION

Most of Papua New Guinea's coffee is grown in the Eastern Highlands, Western Highlands and Simbu provinces.

The coffees used in this limited edition are selected from two of the country's highland provinces. Combining the distinctive flavor of coffees from the limestone regions of the Simbu province with coffees grown in the fertile volcanic soil of the Eastern Highlands province gives this blend its unique and highly balanced flavor profile.

QUALITY IN THE ENTIRE CULTIVATION PROCESS

The small farmers who produce these coffees in form of parchment have developed and perfected their technique to produce a clean and balanced product for generations, picking only the ripest cherries most suitable for this quality.

Processing of dried parchment into green coffee beans takes place at the Lahamenegu mill in Goroka, owned by Paradise Mountain PSC, a smallholder farmers' cooperative.

To preserve quality, the coffees remain until the last moment in the highlands, where the climate is much less humid. When the time for departure arrives, they are transported to the port city of Lae, from where they are sent to our facilities in Vilafranca del Penedès.
