Bella Vista is a small municipality in the heart of the Chiapas mountains, in southern Mexico, on the country's border with Guatemala. Its population is around 2,000 people.
It is full of beautiful green landscapes, highlands and rich clay mineral soils.
CHIAPAS: THE MEXICAN JUNGLE
A COOPERATIVE FOCUSED ON WOMEN
Rosalba Cifuentes Tovia, founder of Mayan Harvest Coffee, works with 38 family-owned and neighbouring coffee farms in the city of Bella Vista to improve their harvesting and processing practices and, in return, obtain more competitive prices for their coffee.
Her organization has grown to 100 producers, 60 of which are women.
TRACEABILITY & COMMUNITY
Rosalba ensures the traceability of the community's coffee by exporting it personally and directly.
Additionally, she also works to provide livelihoods for community members, along with medical and dental care.
