Honduras is a prolific country in coffee production, ranking fifth in the world.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Honduran coffee industry has differentiated itself from other Central American countries by producing specialty, fair trade, and organically grown coffee. Its fertile soil, its favorable layout and its suitable microclimate make it very suitable for the production of high quality coffees, and it is capable of producing a wide variety of coffees.

SPECIALTY COFFEE AS A FLAG

THE SUCCESS OF COMMUNITY WORK

The CABRIPEL cooperative was founded in 1991 in La Estanzuela, a small town in the most famous coffee region of Honduras: Marcala. The cooperative currently has 54 members with small productions.

By joining forces, the members of the cooperative have managed to market their coffee within the Fair and Organic Trade system, achieving important international recognition. The cooperative operates through organized and functional committees that seek to optimize the use of common resources and generate greater benefits for all members of the organization.

100% ORGANIC AND SUSTAINABLE COFFEE FARMING

CABRIPEL members use sustainable farming methods, with the aim of producing high quality organic coffees.

The coffee grows in a mixed crop of orange trees, avocado, linden, bananas and other tall plants. The tall plants provide the coffee with the shade it needs, while protecting the coffee trees and the soil from intense and direct rainfall. Through this system, the cooperative maintains the fertility of the land for future crops.

At the same time, the products of the shade plants serve as a food source for coffee farmers and their families.
