WELCOME TO THE RESPONSIBLE PLEASURE
Since 1958 we produce excellent, high-quality coffees that are as delicious as they are responsible. We firmly believe it is possible to produce excellent coffee while being committed to sustainability and the environment. From the origin to the cup.
Finca San Ramón is located in the region of Jinotega, Nicaragua, known for its volcanic soil rich in nutrients and for the diversity of its microclimate. It has been producing coffee since 1896, with 125 years of dedication by 5 generations of the Rizo family.
Eduardo José Rizo López, the current manager, began his career studying and obtaining a doctorate in law. It was not until 1986 that he returned to Finca San Ramón, bringing fresh air to its management with the help of two of his sons, Eduardo José and Juan José.
FIVE GENERATIONS OF COFFEE TRADITION
THE BOND WITH THE COMMUNITY AS A GROWTH ENGINE
Finca San Ramón is deeply rooted in the local community. The bond created with families goes beyond work, so that everyone shares the same goals, needs and successes. As part of the benefits, the Finca provides land to local families to cultivate as their own.
In addition, to eradicate child labor in the area, the Finca has partnered with the International Labor Organization to raise awareness in the community and build a school for the children of Jinotega.
CARE AND CONSERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
The Rizo family dedicates approximately the equivalent of 50% of the Finca to protected forests, rivers and watering holes. They also actively grow new coffee plantations given that, as the trees age, not only do they yield less, but they are also more susceptible to disease. The Finca plants approximately 200 thousand coffee plants each year along with 5 to 7 thousand shade trees.
Its facilities also try to be respectful with the environment. Its washing process saves 80% of water compared to standard methods, without contaminating any other water source. Seeking a circular use, the remaining pulp is preserved and used as organic fertilizer.
